Walmart doesn’t seem to employ enough people to get reasonable customer service. Much less a knowledgeable person to care for their fish
They say that when you go to a pet shop always look at the facility. If you see a fish tank that’s dirty and alot of dead fishes plus the person in charge is grumpy and dosent know anything about fish leave fast. There is alot of good fish pet shops that have alot of diffrent varieties of fish and that looks clean and the staff are helpful and know alot. There is a lot of info through the internet about the fish hobby, good luck. and sucess with your fishes
honestly neither has very healthy fish. Go to your local fish store. You know the small ones that speciallize in fish. They know what they are doing and have healthy fish. It also may be your water peramiters.
well it depends if the fish was sick when you purchased it as well as how you take care of your tank. make sure you have at least 10 gallons per fish.
did you have a good sized tank to keep him in? did you check the ammonia and nitrate levels? did you float the bag before you put him in your tank?
i have bought 4 fish from walmart and they are doing fine. 2 comets and 2 orandas. i’ve had them almost a year and they have tripled in size.
my petsmart is dirty, so that’s why i bought the fish at walmart…
Wal-Mart fish are stressed beyond belief from a number of factors;
1) Wal-Mart isn’t a pet store, they simply choose to sell fish, so their delivery and supply lines aren’t as pet friendly as a Petco or Petsmart.
2) Water conditions at Wal-Mart are quite poor. They don’t declorinate the water before adding it to the tanks…they use tap water.
3) The fish rely on the person assigned to the aquatic dept to take care of them and quite frankly those people don’t know enough about fish to keep them alive very long…you’ll typically find multiple dead fish in each wall of tanks.
Petsmart and Petco, etc have a better supply chain that specifically deals in safe pet handling, they use pure water and feed good food and conditioners to thier tanks and fish. So while you can save a buck or two at Wal-Mart you end up spending that much more after the fish dies because the fish is living in municipal tap water….that being said, if you take a Wal-Mart fish and put it in tap water, it’s going to die. If you take a stressed fish and put it in Reverse Osmosis water it just may live a long happy life. Water quality is KEY!
None of these “big box” stores are reliable sources of fish. Try to find an independently owned pet store. The prices will be higher, but the fish will be stronger, the service will be better, and the advice will be sound.
That being said, the very best way to get good quality pets is to read and ask knowledgeable people about the sources. An educated consumer is what’s needed here.
Walmart fish are never properly cared for. Have you seen their tanks?
My Walmart can’t afford to keep the light on in their tanks and take the dead fish out, or feed the fish.
They have several large Oscars in a five gallon tank. (1 Oscar needs 75 gallons).
Petsmart does better, but I have found that the best cared for fish come from stores that dedicate the entire store to fish.
Six to seven years is short for some fish, you should go to the fish stores.
Walmart just puts in the fish that they get and leaves them there, not even looking at them. They go for the most exotic fish (a.k.a the most delicate fish) just because people will be more attracted to them. But then they never feed them or care for them properly and most of those fish die after a few days or less.
Never get fish from Walmart!!!

ooo i am pretty smart about fish , the reason y they die is because the walmart tanks are built to the size that that they are meant to die at a early age because so many fish come in and not all of them get sold so the put them is small tanks because that way the fish will get stressed and then become aggresive and kill other fish in that tank !
and then after a while the perfect amount of fish are in the tank and are heather and then will sell more fish
